Highlights from the NABRC meeting held in Brisbane on 3 & 4 August 2010

  • Mr Ralph Shannon appointed the new Chairman of NABRC. Ralph outlined his vision for NABRC including the following:
    • To make the RBRCs and NABRC positions that producers aspire to and are personally challenged and enriched by.
    • To make NABRC an indisputably good investment for the stakeholder members.
    • To provide the preeminent Northern Australia forum for the commitment of industry funding to production R, D and E.
    • To elevate R,D and E for the Northern Australian beef production industry to beneficial national prominence.
  • Dr Peter Carberry, Deputy Director, CSIRO Sustainable Agriculture Flagship spoke to a discussion paper “Research opportunities for sustainable productivity improvement for the northern beef industry” and outlined plans to undertake a scoping study to assess future scenarios for the northern beef industry.

The field trip for this meeting was a visit to the Centre for Advanced Animal Studies and the new School of Veterinary Science complex at the University of Queensland Gatton Campus.

The NABRC Medals Presentation Dinner was held during on the evening of Tuesday 3 August. A presentation was also made to Janine King for her distinguished service to NABRC.
